Activities

Conceived in disease prevention and health promotion, the Department of Hygiene, a discipline of social medicine, is interested in a variety of research areas including environmental health, occupational health, mental health, school health, community health and care welfare, mainly via field works. Especially, the Department has been participating in special health examinations for hand-arm vibration syndrome among vibrating tool operators in forestry for more than 30 years. Based on these activities, the Department has been continuously engaged in the research of hand-arm vibration syndrome.

Research interests

  1. Epidemiological study on determinants of lifestyle-related diseases including atherosclerotic diseases
  2. Cognitive decline/Dementia and their relationship with cardiovascular diseases
  3. Influences of cigarette/tobacco smoking (including new types of tobacco products) upon human health and society
  4. Determinants of longevity and successful aging (utilizing secondary data)
  5. Elucidation of pathology in hand-arm vibration syndrome and establishment of its novel diagnostic system
  6. Fundamental studies to assess the usefulness of novel vibration perception meters developed on the ISO standard
  7. Epidemiological studies for risk factors and comorbidities of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among children

2014- April 2021
